In order for you to be a successful video poker player, here are some basic tips that will help you choose what to hold and what to discard.
We will start from the bottom and move up from there. The first one to remember is to hold one high card and change the rest in hope of getting a high pair or something better. The next one if available is to hold a high card and a ten if they are in the same suit. When doing this you are going for a high pair, a flush and royal straight flush.
The next one is two high cards. With these cards held you are aiming for a high pair again. If you have three cards to a straight flush, these are the cards to hold on for and hope for the bigger ones! If that is not the case you should look for two high cards in the same suit. Is a low pair the only option, this is what you hold and aim for a house, three of a kind or two pairs. Four cards to a flush is the next combination to look out for, and this one will give you the chance of a flush.
If there is three cards for a royal straight flush, these are worth holding on to and hoping for the last two to give you the jackpot. If that is not the case and a high pair is present, stick with those and know that you are sure of winning. If two pairs are present, hold on to those and hope for a house. If four cards to a straight flush, you only need one more to a rather good payout, so hold on to these if they appear on the screen. If there is three of a kind on the screen, you are already a winner, but if you are lucky, you can get four of a kind or a full house. And lastly if, you get four cards for a royal straight flush, you better hold on to those and hope for the jackpot to payout.
Every now and then you will win the jackpot and get the royal straight flush, so just make sure that you are always betting the maximum coin amount to get the jackpot.
